In the world we live in, sorrow, pain, love, kindness, solitude, care, hatred, and countless other emotions are endless and infinite. For thousands of years—perhaps for as long as we human beings can remember—these feelings have been with us, lived with us, shaped us, broken us, and built resilience within us. Today, what is happening in Afghanistan is insane, inhumane, ridiculous, and horrifying. Beyond my homeland, the state of the world also drives me crazy. As a human and a composer, I find the somberness, sadness, horror, and terrible actions around us to be the overwhelming side of a coin that has won over me—they are all intolerable. Sadly, negativity seems infinite today. Though there are glimpses of happiness and bits of hope scattered here and there that make these tough times more bearable, I can only live with the belief that I am not alone in feeling this way. Thanks to the power of art and music, I find the strength to endure pain and keep going despite the chaos of the world. In hope of a day when our happiness is endless and infinite across the world.
INSTRUMENTATION: Trumpet in C, Trumpet in Bb (2), Flugelhorn (2)
